The West Hawaii Hockey association was founded in 1994 by a man named Rick Woodland. At first the rink was located in the county swimming pool parking lot and the sides of the rink were little more then knee high! If you visit the pool today you can still see lines where the rink was at! After several years and a large amount of growth, people began talking about a new area to put the rink. After countless meetings and other discussions a spot located in old airport was selected for the new rink. Glass full sized boards and everything you could possibly imagine for an outdoor rink was constructed in about a few months. A few years later money was raised through the association to build lights which are still there today. As of lately the rink still stands but some problems have arose. The rinks surface itself has deteoriated over the last decade and it needs a new surface preferably sport court(A special material used only for Inline Hockey). West hawaii hockey currently has about 35 youth and 15 men's players. As of late the youth team plays in a yearly hockey tournament in Oahu. In 2008 the 14u division took home gold and this year the 14u division took home gold as well. A few mens players also played in the tournament and took home gold. We are always looking for new hockey players in men and youth.
